The Location

Our modern luxury first-floor apartments are only a few steps from trendy boutiques and top class restaurants. They forms part of the recently constructed and imposing Residence D'Angleterre on the Rue de Paris at the heart of the chic family resort of Carteret in Normandy. Each apartment has two bedrooms, underfloor heating, large wooden-decked balconies and electric shutters on all windows. The apartments have been equipped with high quality, modern furnishings.

Carteret's waterfront bustles with activity:  at high tide sailing yachts and motor vessels make their way to and fro from the marina and trawlers unload their catch straight onto the quay at the Gare Maritime. Carteret's spectacular beaches are safe and sheltered in summer. They have been awarded the European Blue Flag for water that has been warmed by the Gulf Stream. There are miles of un-spoilt coastline and protected dunes.

There are many excellent restaurants to choose from within easy walking distance, including L'Hermitage, the Michelin-starred Marine Hotel which is situated next door, and Le Potinière that may be found on the beach. Nearby Barneville, that is accessible on foot offers a market, cinema, supermarket and nightclub (Le Kissing!).

At high tide the estuary provides a clear stretch of water ideal for those wishing to learn to sail. The sailing school at the top of the rue de Paris caters for all levels.

Carteret is an easy 30km drive from Cherbourg along the quiet D650. It is also possible to drive from Caen or Le Havre. The ferry crossing from Poole or Portsmouth takes approx 2 hours by catamaran and 4 hours by standard ferry crossing. Dinard Airport is a 2 hour drive away and Flybe operate flights from Southamton to Cherbourg.

From the Rue de Paris a coded gate takes you into a secluded courtyard.

THE LOUNGE/DINING ROOMS:

  • Each apartment has a large fully furnished lounge equipped with coffee table, comfortable sofa, chairs, and a dining table with enough room to seat six people.
  • For entertainment they have flat screen televisions with English and French channels, plus DVD players, and CD player/radios.
  • Double sliding doors open from the lounge onto the large wooden-decked balcony.

THE KITCHENS:

  • The modern kitchens have everything you need with built in ovens, modern hobs, coffee machines, kettles, integrated microwaves, fridges and dishwashers.
  • Good quality cutlery and crockery have also been supplied.
  • There are also combined washing machine and tumble dryers in each apartment.

THE BEDROOMS:

  • All the bedrooms in the apartments are bright, spacious, and comfortably equipped with modern beds and fittings.
  • Bedroom 1 is with a king size bed.
  • Bedroom 2 is with twin beds.
  • Both the bedrooms in apartment 1 have built in wardrobes giving you more space and a clutter free holiday.

THE BATHROOMS:

  • The apartments each boast large modern family bathrooms, ideal to pamper yourselves.
  • Large bath/mixer shower and his'n hers basins.
  • Both the bedrooms in apartment 2 have en-suite bathrooms for that extra luxury.

  • There is a lift to apartment 1 which is all on one level.

 

The Outside

THE BALCONIES
  • Both apartments have large balconies that span their entire width.
  • You will find plenty of furniture so that you can dine al fresco, or just enjoy a cold drink in the morning sun.
  • There is outdoor lighting on all large balconies.

Cleaning/Linen

  • The apartments both have washing machines but all bed linen, bath and tea towels are included in the price.
  • Guests are requested to bring their own beach towels.
  • The property is cleaned once for each occupancy and all linen changed weekly. There is a £30 fee for this service.

Local Information

  • Local shops within a short stroll of the apartment include a boulangerie, patisserie and delicatessen.
  • There are several excellent places to eat, ranging from a very good creperie, pizzeria and several waterfront restaurants to the Michelin-starred Marine Hotel.
  • The nearest large supermarket (Champion) is at Barneville, with a large poissoinnerie next door.
  • There is a popular market at Carteret on Thursday and at Barneville on Saturday, with markets at other nearby towns on every day of the week.
  • There is a bank (and cashpoint) and tourist office less than 2 minutes walk from the apartment.

Coast/Beach

  • Carteret's spectacular beaches are a 10 minute walk from the apartment, they have been awarded the European Blue Flag for water quality and offer great stretches of shallow water for youngsters.
  • A walk around the headland for around 20 minutes will take you to mile upon mile of deserted sands on the Plage de la Vieille Eglise (can also be reached by car).
  • In the opposite direction, Barneville-Plage is popular with French families and there are plenty of water sports on offer.

Golf

  • There is a 9 hole golf course nearby.

Distances

  • Carteret's twin town Barneville is 5 minutes away by car.
  • Portbail, a picturesque fishing village, is a few km south of Carteret at the mouth of the river Ollonde.
  • Both Bayeux and the D-Day Landing Beaches are within an hour's drive of Carteret.
  • Ferries to Jersey (22km southwest of Carteret) run from Carteret's Gare Maritime or Portbail April-October.

Other Facilities and Information

  • Unless otherwise agreed, there shall not be more than 4 people (all over 10 years of age) staying in the apartment at any one time.
  • Bed linen, bath and teal towels are included in the rental, and will be changed each Saturday.
  • Tenants will be met on arrival by Darell or Susan. They will be shown how everything works, both inside and out (including the coded entrance gates and electronically operated front door).
  • Tenants should advise Darell or Susan at the end of each rental of any losses, breakages or damages. This is in lieu of an inventory.
  • There is Broadband/Wireless internet access.
  • There is an iron, and an ironing board.
  • These are very much "all-year-round" apartments, and are centrally heated throughout by under floor heating and radiators in the bathrooms.
  • The owner's insurance policy requires that all exterior doors are locked, that all windows and shutters are closed whenever tenants are away from the property.
  • The House Manual is most detailed, and as well as describing how everything works (both inside and out), it lists a doctor, a dentist, an electrician, and a plumber, plus other emergency and useful numbers. It also contains details (and brochures) on local events and sporting and other activities of all kinds, including markets (and the day/s of the week on which each is held), festivals, concerts, etc. There is also a list of recommended restaurants in various price ranges, plus hints on what and where to buy the local specialities.

Prices and Rental Information

  • Bookings are normally taken from Saturday to Saturday. The apartment is available from 4pm on the day of arrival to 10am on the day of departure. These rules are not rigid and if you need to arrive on a different day please ask. Outside of the main holiday periods we are happy to take bookings on a daily basis, with a minimum stay of three nights.
  • Tenants should arrive between 4 pm and 6 pm on the commencement day, and should leave before 10 am on the agreed day of departure. If leaving from Cherbourg, for example, this will allow sufficient time to stop at Majestic in the centre of town before boarding the lunch time fast-cat or car ferry.

 

The Deposit

  • A deposit of 25% of the rent will be payable on signing the Rental Agreement, with the balance to be paid 2 months prior to the commencement of the tenancy.
